Company History

Patel Trading first laid its foundations in the small village of Nzega in the year of 1961; the year of Tanzania's Independence. It started off, surprisingly, as a general store. The company dealt many different goods such as timber, hardware and even clothes. Everything one needed was available from the local communities. People from as far as Tabora, Kahama and Bukene regularly came to this busy little hub to trade.

Motor vehicles were also part of daily business at Patel Trading from quite early on. Over a few years preceding the establishment of Patel Trading the company transitioned from a general store to purely providing the services in the motor industry. Initally, Patel Trading worked with companies such as Scania, Isuzu, Toyota, Land Rover and Peugeot. However, the turning point came in the year of 1987 when International Motors LTD (now Toyota Tanzania Ltd) authorised Patel Trading to declare itself a dealer of Toyota. This was a significant step for the company as the dealership brought with it the many opportunities and responsibilities.

Another significant step came in the period of 1990 – 2000 in which Patel Trading established a branch of the company in Mwanza. This, over the years, developed from a shop selling spares of Toyota to a fully-fledged workshop in Mwanza’s industrial area. Mwanza now serves as Patel Trading’s base of operations. This shaped Patel Trading into what it is today, a steadfast, ever improving company driving for excellence.
